Leading life sciences company Eppendorf has introduced the first hydrocarbon-cooled laboratory microcentrifuge, the 5427 R, which contributes to an even more sustainable laboratory environment. With this offering, customers can now perform a variety of molecular and cellular biology tasks using a cooling device containing a natural cooling agent with virtually zero GWP. Natural refrigerants such as R290 (propane) have the same low global warming potential asCO2 (less than 3), while conventional refrigerants such as R134a have a GWP = 1430 and therefore have a disproportionately greater impact on global warming when released into the environment.
The Centrifuge 5427 R certification on the ACT Label makes it even easier for customers to choose a more sustainable product, as this label contains clear, third-party verified information about its environmental impact (e.g. production, energy and water consumption, as well as product packaging and shelf life).
However, the new Eppendorf centrifuge is not only characterised by reliable propane cooling: thanks to its compact dimensions and double-row rotor FA-45-48-11 for tube volumes up to 48×1.5/2 mL, it is the optimal solution for high-throughput laboratories.
With a large selection of rotors, it is also a good choice for applications where many users share the instrument: nine rotor options consisting of fixed-angle rotors and a swivel bucket cover a wide range of applications in molecular and cellular biology.
The new Eppendorf 5427 R centrifuge can therefore be successfully used in laboratories that perform clinical or environmental analysis, forensic laboratories and industrial laboratories where process analysis, production and quality control are performed.
